When it comes to afternoon tea in San Diego, the options are limited. However, I discovered it was offered right in the heart of downtown at The Westgate Hotel. Afternoon tea is offered weekly in their Grand Lobby from Thursday through Sunday. You can select from three different time slots for your reservation, in 30 minute intervals, between 1:00pm and 2:00pm. This experience is composed of three courses along with a tea selection and the option to add on champagne or apple cider per person. The selection includes black, green, white, or herbal tea. Below you will see the three courses we received. This included tea sandwiches, a sweet selection of fresh handmade savories, pastries, French macarons, and cakes.
The afternoon tea lasted about two hours and the courses were brought out about every half hour. During this time hot water was added to the teapots to keep their temperature. The portions were decently sized and by the last course, I did not have room to try all the seasonal mini pastries. The atmosphere is very elegant and it gives a French vibe. Additionally, there was live music being played on a harp which added to the ambiance as well.
Parking is available onsite at the underground valet. The prices for the afternoon tea experience are $55 per adult, $35 per child (ages 2 to 12), and complimentary for infants (age 1 and under). These prices do not include tax or the twenty percent gratuity charge. However, the total cost is lower than other options in the area with prices up to $89 per person. Reservations can be made here. Overall, this was an excellent experience and it was refreshing to discover in San Diego.
